A Visual Success

Ben and Jerry's new ice cream flavor is a big hit in Ireland and Europe. For the company this is a visual success in the European market for customers, since many buyers associate a product with their lifestyle. Many locations in Europe is cold and filled with snow at times during the year. Therefore, Ben and Jerry's made a flavor that has the snowy white appearance with a warming taste of marshmallows.

A Visual Miscue

By changing a beloved ice cream name to celebrate Vermont's legalization of gay marriage, this caused Ben and Jerry's to lose their loyal customers. These customers include church goers and Conservative people. By changing their name and image of an ice cream, the "chubby hubby" caused a stir with a customer's moral and spiritual belief system, which associates them in their dicission making while buying a product from a company.

Congratulations Message to Ben and Jerrys

Dear Ben and Jerry's Inc,

As a loyal customer, I am very happy with your ice cream products. The many different assortment of flavors have a very positive impact on what I crave for when I shop for your ice cream. I am pleased to say you are continuing to enforce professional customer service and interaction with your employees in any Ben and Jerry's ice cream store. Especially, I am very pleased and with the management and staff of the Ben and Jerry's located in Alapharetta, Georgia. Your assistant manager, Phillip R Noeth, deserves every penny he receives, because he maintains the store pretty well in both his current job in the Alapharetta, GA and also while working in the Times Square location last year. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
Lisa Melanie Martinez.

Cookie Dough

As a loyal customer and ice cream fanatic, I believe you should purchase Ben and Jerry's most delicious ice cream flavor: "The Cookie Dough". This product features large chunks of chocolate and the delicious taste of cookie dough as a cold ice cream product. Trust me, once you put this in your mouth, it will feel like you are eating cookie dough before it is baked. What it basically is, is vanilla ice cream with lumps of chocolate chip cookie dough. Of course, I’ll only share my wisdom, not the ice cream itself, so put your tongue away! The taste is more natural and also it feels like homemade.

Ben and Jerry's: Photoshopping Goes Wrong

The visual evolution helped many companies in a good and bad way. Sometimes, the negative effect could be destorying the company's image through photoshopping and altering a company's product or message.

This is an example of that problem:

Chapter 13: Video Presentation

The video presentation is the best type of visual out there for Ben and Jerry's. Laughter is known as the best medicine and it is a good advertisement scheme for the consumer to associate themselves with a product and it's television commercial. With the uses of catchy phrases, appealing music, the right setting/situation and images related to the product, this is a very effective way to sell ice cream. By synthesizing both comedy by making the audience and also adding their product to the skit, this is used to help the audience remember the message of buying the product. The video above shows an example of Ben and Jerry's holding a contest for the best politically correct commercial with the product placement of their ice cream with the two founders and an ice cream product.

Chapter 13 The Visual Evolution

Ben and Jerry's benefited from the visual evolution. As techonology became more reliable and ef

Chapter 5 Writing a Business Message

Chapter 5 Writing a Business Message
When writing a business message. You have to know your audience and your purpose. By knowing your audience, then you have to adapt to their own needs and expectations of your message. If you want to give a well spoken presentation or written message, you must know what you are trying to convey to the audience or reader. Remember, your own point of view is not a fact. An example of my company conveying a business message is a recent presentation for the students from Lawrence Technological University's convocation for new students. This presentation's purpose is to motivate the idea of entrepreneurial spirit and social responsibility from the co founder, Jerry Greenfield. Jerry's presentation consists of how he became successful through his own business philosophy. http://www.pressreleasepoint.com/ben-amp-jerry039s-cofounder-brings-entrepreneurial-message-lawrence-tech

For my presentation, I will be a marketer. My audience is a focus group, who consists of ice cream aficionados. This focus group is required to feedback regarding our new products. In the end, I wish the members of the group will promote Ben and Jerry's through a word of mouth. The main purpose of my presentation is for the audience to try then buy Ben and Jerry's products.

The Persuaders

In the movie, "The Persuaders", emotional branding is an important aspect of advertisement. There is a concept of explaining the differences between products through descriptive and emotional words. The idea of an emotional brand is it can create an emotion and identity to consumers of America. The question to answer with these emotional brands is, "How do they make you feel?"

With Ben and Jerry's, they use emotional brand through their ice cream products by promoting a different combination of flavors to their customers. Ben and Jerry's have a key ideal to connect their products to the customer for an emotional appeal and social responsibility to their customers. For example, on election day ,November 4 2008, Ben and Jerry's gave away free ice cream if you voted and also endorsed Mr. Obama by promoting their ice cream, "WePecan".

Ben and Jerry's says "Hubby, Hubby" and "Yes, Pecan"

Ben and Jerry's try hard to promote diversity with their customers.

Unfortunately, one of their strageies caused a controversy throughout the company's decision. Recently, Vermont passed a bill to legalize gay marriage within the whole entire state. Same sex couples are now allowed to get married. In doing so, the Ben and Jerry's decided to celebrate this accomplishment by changing their popular ice cream sundae from "Lubby Hubby" to "Chubby Hubby. Walt Freese, CEO of Vermont-based Ben & Jerry’s, states, "At the core of Ben & Jerry’s values, we believe that social justice can and should be something that every human being is entitled to. From the very beginning of our 30 year history, we have supported equal rights for all people. The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction and something worth celebrating with peace, love and plenty of ice cream.”

Additionally, Ben and Jerry's also try to reach their customers by also announcing a new ice cream name during the 2008 Presidental Election. As a very liberal company, they endorsed Barack Obama during the election. Therefore, during the day of the election, November 4, the company introduced a new ice cream flavor,"Yes Pecan".

Enhancing Presentations with Slides and Other Visuals

In order to captivate the audience during your presentation, you could use visual aids. Visual aids helps a person remember the message. It is great because you can really communicate your message through visual aids to connect with the audience. Slides, such as power point, bring a sense of depth and understanding by viewing key concepts or words. Another way of visually enhancing your presentation is by using pictures, video clips (especially from well known movies or tv shows), graphs, charts, etc. By enhancing your presentation, this will help deliver your message to your audience more effectively.
These are examples of visual aids:

Writing a Persuasive Message

When you are writing a persuasive message, you want to convey only your view to the audience by effectively communicating to them. First, you have to plan how are you going to communicate your message. Next, you have to be able to gain the attention of the "targeted" audience. Ask yourself, "who are you trying to persuade" and "why". Figure out the demographics, age, gender, etc. And then establish to them your credibility through facts (positive and negative). Then you convince your audience,"Why am I different from my other competitors?". Finally, you sum up and reinforce your message.

How's Ben and Jerry's doing today?

So you may ask, "How is Ben and Jerry's doing today?".

Unfortunately, many businesses are affected by the economic crisis plaguing our nation today. . However, the everyday customer is still craving for their own comfort food, especially ice cream in alleviating the stresses of life. Unilever's (the current company owner) Ben and Jerry's ice cream products and their over 100 store franchises across the nation continues to be very successful. Additionally, the franchise stores offers their loyal customers "Free Cone Day" every year during the end of April to celebrate their anniversary. Today, the company receives about $1-10 million in revenue and they have over 250 employees throughout the stores and the company itself.

Just recently, the company is facing a controversy over the name change of an ice cream from "Lubby Hubby" to "Hubby Hubby", which a marketing ploy in basically promoting the celebration of Vermont's "Gay marriage equality" bill .

There are about 3 Ben and Jerry's stores located in Manhattan. Unfortunately, one store didn't survive as of today, because of the economic crisis. The Ben and Jerry's store in Times Square, which many tourists and locals alike, once enjoyed their 28 different flavors they offered on the corner of 43rd and 8th ave. This store closed on January 5, 2009 due to high building/maintenance costs, outdated equipment, etc.
